Last night was a rough night, Nathan started to wake up on his own, so they had to give him more sedation to keep him down. In addition to that he started running a fever, they treated it with Tylenol and started checking his temp every 2 hours. The doctor came by this morning and went over everything they did. He told us that the incision is similar to an inverted chevron (upside down checkmark). All of his stitches are on the inside so we don’t have to come back to get any stitches removed. They told us they would wake him up this morning and remove the breathing tube and catheter.
So I was concerned that they were going to remove his catheter while he was still awake, thankfully they removed his breathing tube and catheter while he was asleep. They left the tube in his nose to drain out his tummy, they told us that wouldn’t come out until what was coming out was clear. He’s also not able to start and fluids until after that comes out, so hopefully it happens soon.
Malia got to hold Nathan in her lap for the first time since before the surgery, that was the most exciting thing that happened today.
