PICU Day 2
Another long night, Malia and I have taken to sleeping in shifts. Malia get’s the “bed” until about 3 and then switches to the rocking chair until morning. He’s still got a fever and the PICU doc and the surgeon are having a bit of a turf war over giving him blood.
The surgeon wants Nathan to build his blood back up on his own since his own blood will have the white blood cells that are fighting off the cancer now. The PICU doc say’s that if we give Nathan a unit of blood now it will help him recover faster. They also decided to take him off his continuous drip Fentanyl and put him on a 2 hour cycle of Fentanyl.
Respiratory medicine came in and they also want Nathan to try and work on deep breathing. So they brought in a little pinwheel thing, Nathan didn’t want to have anything to do with that, so the nurses MacGyver’d some bubbles with water and soap, he liked that a lot better.
At 630p we got a visit from Bag’s of Fun! They bring kids diagnosed with cancer a backpack full of goodies. There were books, puzzles, a remote control car, a couple of light up toys and a LeapPad 2!
